Part-Time Climbing Instructors (Experienced & Non-Experienced)

Awesome Walls Cork is currently looking for both experienced and non-experienced part-time climbing instructors to join our enthusiastic team. Whether you’re a seasoned climber or just starting out, if you have a love for the sport and a drive to deliver exceptional customer service, we’d love to hear from you!

Essential Requirements:
– Competent in top rope belaying (minimum requirement).
– Experienced climbers should also be skilled in bouldering, lead climbing, and belaying.
– Flexibility to work evenings and weekends (our busiest times are outside regular office hours).
– Friendly, approachable, and professional demeanor.
– Completion of Level 1 Child Safeguarding course (or willingness to complete it).
Role Overview:
Position:
Part-time with flexible hours, mainly evenings and weekends. As our schedule is customer-driven, flexibility is crucial as it may vary from week to week.
Core Responsibilities:
1. Belaying Groups:
Instructors must be highly competent belayers with a passion for introducing climbing to beginners of all ages. A positive attitude, combined with high safety awareness, is essential.
2. Teaching Technical Rope Skills:
You’ll teach beginners how to climb independently. This requires excellent communication skills and the ability to assess and make decisions in real-time. Knowledge of climbing equipment and techniques is essential.
3. Coaching Climbing Movement:
You’ll deliver coaching sessions to climbers of various abilities. Understanding and teaching efficient climbing techniques, movement, and safety practices is key.
4. Working with Children:
Instructors must enjoy working with children and young people. Garda vetting and regular safeguarding training are mandatory. All staff must adhere to our code of conduct when working with minors.
5. Monitoring Safety:
Ensuring the safety of customers and staff is our top priority. You’ll need to demonstrate safe practices and be vigilant in spotting hazards and unsafe behavior around the centre.
6. Cleaning Duties:
A clean and tidy centre is essential to maintaining a safe environment. Instructors are responsible for regular cleaning tasks and should take initiative when necessary.
7. Customer Service & Reception:
This is a customer-facing role. Instructors are expected to provide exceptional customer service, including working the reception, answering phones, taking bookings, and handling food and beverage services. Familiarity with our entrance policies and products is essential. Any on-the-spot decisions must be cleared with the Duty Manager.
Salary:
€13.79 – €14.29 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
